Transformative actions in Kenya

Changes in land use, combined with the effects of climate change, are placing growing pressure on natural resources and intensifying competition between people and wildlife in East Africa. In Kenya, habitat degradation and fragmentation caused by agricultural expansion, urbanization, and land management practices threaten diverse flora and fauna and at the same time, limit the movement of both people and animals.

We respond to these mounting pressures by supporting the coexistence of people and nature—preserving the connectivity, functionality, and health of ecosystems across diverse landscapes. Protecting biodiversity is central to this work, helping sustain resilient ecosystems while also contributing to the health and livelihoods of local communities.

Our main projects in the region currently include the dual-purpose corridor initiative, ecosystem inventory for arid and semiarid lands, Laikipia County Spatial Planning, youth-led conservation, and landscape restoration using semicircular bunds.
