Transformation Fund – Ready to Start
Project Update
Publish date: May 4, 2026
The Swiss Transformation Fund has completed all required administrative and regulatory steps and is now officially ready to start. While the formal public launch is still to come, this marks a key milestone in the development of the Fund and signals its readiness to move from design into implementation.
The Transformation Fund is a collaborative funding platform that enables philanthropic, public, and private partners in Switzerland to take meaningful, accountable, and measurable action on climate, nature, and human well-being. Building on the Climate Responsibility Approach, the Fund moves beyond traditional carbon offsetting by supporting partners in taking responsibility for their own emissions through direct contributions to transformative, science-based initiatives aligned with the Paris Agreement.
Rather than relying on one-to-one carbon certificates, the Fund channels contributions into projects that catalyze systemic change—from restoring forests and regenerating landscapes to strengthening community resilience and climate governance. Each contribution supports activities that address climate impacts while generating co-benefits for biodiversity and people.
Fondation Botnar initiated and enabled the early development of the Transformation Fund, motivated by a reflection on its own environmental footprint and the need for credible, collective approaches to climate responsibility. In this initial phase, the Foundation has acted as a convener and facilitator, bringing partners together and supporting the co-design process. As the Fund moves forward, Fondation Botnar intends to transition from this enabling role to becoming one contributor among many, reinforcing the Fund’s collective nature.
The Fund is hosted and managed by the Wyss Academy for Nature, under its robust governance, compliance, and impact framework. Through its global Solutionscapes, the Wyss Academy works with local communities, scientists, businesses, and policymakers to translate scientific knowledge into action. All contributions to the Transformation Fund are integrated into the Academy’s Learning, Monitoring, and Evaluation system, ensuring credible impact measurement, transparency, and continuous learning.
As the Transformation Fund enters its implementation phase, it will continue to build on collaboration with like-minded partners—working together to turn shared responsibility into projects blooming on the ground.
