To address the shortage of specialists in the field of peatland restoration, a CAS in Peat Ecology was developed.

The design and delivery of the Certificate of Advanced Studies was supported by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) and complemented both technically and financially by the Wyss Academy and the Canton of Bern as part of the LANAT-4 project. This nationally unique programme was conducted bilingually (German and French) and led by HEPIA (Haute école du paysage, d'ingénierie et d'architecture de Genève) in close collaboration with experts from Switzerland, Germany, and France.

Alongside theoretical instruction in the classroom, the programme included extensive fieldwork and on-site investigation of various peatland biotopes. Participants acquired competencies in assessing peatland areas (diagnosis) and gained a broad range of ecological and hydrological knowledge.

The first edition of the CAS Peat Ecology has now been successfully completed. At the closing ceremony on 24 April 2026, the 20 students presented their final projects and received their diplomas. We warmly congratulate the graduates and are delighted to welcome new skilled professionals ready to contribute to upcoming peatland restoration efforts!

Due to high demand, the CAS Peat Ecology is expected to be offered again from summer 2027. Further information will be published on the HEPIA website.
