Dr. Dominique Schmid is a political ecologist and development researcher specializing in the intersection of climate interventions, resource governance, and local livelihoods. She holds a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from Universitat Pompeu Fabra and has led extensive research on the social impacts of nature-based carbon projects across Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. Her work bridges academic research with the rich practical experience of community-based organizations and NGOs. Dominique leads the Wyss Academy’s interdisciplinary research project on Payment for Ecosystem Services, which seeks to improve monitoring approaches of such projects by incorporating underrepresented metrics such as biodiversity and wellbeing. As part of this project, her postdoctoral research focuses on identifying pathways for multidimensional social and human wellbeing monitoring in complex socio-ecological systems in Kenya and Peru.
