The webinar “Global Frameworks to Local Realities: Equity and Participation in Governance” explores how global biodiversity governance frameworks translate into meaningful local action. Organized within the GLP Working Group Telecoupling Research Towards Sustainable Transformation of Land Systems, the session takes place online on 28 March 2025. It is co-organized and moderated by Diana Ramírez Mejía (VU Amsterdam, and partner in our project Anticipating the “Dis-placed” Consequences of Global Biodiversity Targets – 1.2.4), with presentations by Van Thi Hai Nguyen and Carlos Emiliano Bolaños Aguilar.

The discussion highlights that while global agreements such as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework provide important direction, their effectiveness depends on how they are implemented at the local level. Equity and participation emerge as central themes, underscoring that governance processes must empower Indigenous Peoples and local communities rather than risk excluding or marginalizing them.

In conclusion, the webinar emphasizes that translating global frameworks into inclusive and equitable local realities is essential for ensuring that biodiversity governance contributes to sustainable and just transformations. A recording of the session and a blogpost with key takeaways are available on the GLP webpage.
