Dr. Joel Persson is an environmental social scientist and a visiting researcher with the Land Systems and Sustainability Transformations team at the Wyss Academy. Joel has a PhD in Geography from the University of Copenhagen and is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Development and Environment, University of Bern. With nearly a decade of experience researching forest governance, land-use change, and rural livelihoods in Southeast Asia, Joel combines quantitative, qualitative, and geospatial methods to untangle complex social-ecological interconnections across multiple levels. His current research employs Q-methodology with stakeholders in Lao PDR, mapping diverse perspectives on national forest expansion strategies to identify pathways toward sustainable land transformation.
