Dr. Horst Weyerhäuser
Hub Director, Regional Stewardship Hub Southeast Asia
Horst Weyerhaeuser is the Regional Senior Advisor and Hub Lead at the Wyss Academy's Hub Southeast Asia. He grew up on a mixed farm with some community forests and studied Ecology, Natural Resource Management and Geographic Information Systems & Remote Sensing in the US and UK. He holds a PhD in Social & Community Forestry from Freiburg University, Germany. He has worked for a wide range of international development, donor and research organisations, including GIZ/BMZ, Sida, World Bank, UNOPS, UNDP. He has developed country and regional development and research programs in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Afghanistan and South Asia.
His expertise is in bringing stakeholders together, supporting landscape-based solutions by looking at how different needs and advantages of key players can help shape the sustainable use and management of mountain environments. His key areas of interest are the linkages and challenges between agriculture development and improved livelihoods, as well as resource security and conservation.
