Café futur SPECIAL EVENT: How can farmers and consumers contribute to a sustainable food system?
Wednesday, 18.09.2024
The next Café Futur will take place on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Kochergasse 4 in Bern.
In this special event, as part of the Bern Sustainability Days, you can look forward to various exciting presentations on sustainable food systems and the opportunity for personal exchange with experts. Café Futur will also have actual coffee and cake! You can enjoy freshly baked snacks (naturally local, seasonal, and sustainable) and delicious beverages. These are the questions that will be addressed in this event:
What challenges are our farmers facing in the “vegetable garden of Switzerland,” the Grosses Moos in the Seeland region? What solutions are already being considered?
The Research Scientist from the Hub Bern of the Wyss Academy for Nature, Cyrill Hess, will present the project “Sustainable Management of Water and Soil Resources in the Three-Lakes Region,” which is being conducted in collaboration with the Office for Agriculture and Nature of the Canton of Bern (LANAT) and local stakeholders. He will discuss the economic and ecological challenges of the region and explain how market demands, soil fertility and biodiversity preservation, and improved water use must be balanced in the future, as well as the exciting solutions that are already being considered.
What can you personally do as a consumer to contribute to a more sustainable food system? Various companies and associations from Bern, which pursue different approaches to sustainable consumption, will also participate, introduce themselves and demonstrate how you can easily contribute to a more sustainable food system with your consumption behavior.
Café futur #6: Avocado from South America or chicken from Switzerland?
Thursday, September 19, 2024
The next Café Futur will take place on Wednesday, September 19, 2024, from 19.30 to 21.00 at Kochergasse 4 in Bern.
In this event, Ida Gysin will show us the impact of our diet and the current food system on the environment. She will look specifically at the current state of the Swiss food system in terms of its environmental impact and show what its sustainable transformation could look like. In addition to the need for political action, which will be demonstrated using innovative projects abroad, we will discuss what we can do as individuals and collectively to make the food system healthier for ourselves and the planet.
Ida Gysin studied political science, sustainable development and sociology in Basel and Bern. She now works at the University of Bern and researches the transformation of the food system and the possibilities of making the food system in Switzerland more sustainable.
What can you expect?
Café Futur is a series of events that present and discuss current information on sustainability and climate topics. Here, you have the unique opportunity to talk about these important issues in a relaxed atmosphere with experts and other interested individuals, gain new perspectives, and make connections. The goal is to inform, raise awareness, inspire, and hopefully create a better future together in a personal yet collective way. Diversity and education are particularly important to us - the more diverse the group of participants, the more exciting the conversations and the more open the newly acquired perspectives. Café Futur looks forward to your participation!
Where does it come from?
The idea for Café Futur arose from a collaboration between representatives of Klimagrosseltern Stadt Bern and the Wyss Academy for Nature, who aim to promote intergenerational exchange and commitment to sustainability and climate protection.
How does it work?
Café Futur starts with a one-year pilot phase consisting of six events. The premiere took place as part of the Bern Sustainability Days on September 21, 2023. Currently, Café Futur is held approximately every 2-3 months, generally on the last Thursday of the month from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Kochergasse 4 (ground floor) in Bern. For exact dates, see the flyer. Participation in the events is free, but registration via info@cafefutur.ch is requested (no registration - no guaranteed spot!).
Join Café Futur and get inspired by current topics around sustainability and climate protection. Together, we can make a positive contribution to our future - including broadening our personal and thematic horizons. We look forward to seeing you!
